Walt Haberman

Walt Haberman

Walt Haberman has been an active Angus breeder for nearly 60 years.  He bought his first Angus heifer at the North Dakota Winter Show Angus sale in 1949.  Walt started his career in 4-H and FFA, showing and judging beef and swine.  He won the 1958 FFA American Farmer Degree.  He was employed for five years by the S&W Angus Ranch, Purdum, NE, while maintaining his operation in LaMoure.  He then returned home to continue to farm and raise Angus cattle.  Through the years he has shown champion bulls and females at many livestock shows including four that the North Dakota Winter Show and an April class winner at the National Western Livestock Show in Denver, CO.

Walt´s success in the Angus business is his greatest achievement.  From that first Angus heifer and others he purchased and raised, he built Atomic Angus.  He has shown and promoted the Angus breed statewide and nationally.  Walt is a strong supporter of the North Dakota Winter Show and the North Star Classic.  He is a past president and an active member of the ND Angus Association and was the 1996 North Dakota Angus Association Man of the Year.  He also had a key role in the development of the Red River Angus Association.  Walt is currently active in promoting FFA/4-H livestock activities by being an award sponsor and a resource for livestock judging participants and other youth activities.  Many of Walt and Dora’s children and grandchildren are following his footsteps in agriculture and livestock industry.
